Jarvis Cocker will perform a special set at The Crucible in Sheffield later this week when the documentary The Big Melt receives its premiere in Sheffield.

Cocker has written the score for the film which looks back at Sheffield’s steel industry, and will appear at the opening night of the city’s Doc/Fest on June 12th.

He will be joined by a string quartet, brass band and children’s choir, as well various musicians including his one-time Pulp bandmate Richard Hawley.

“Just like Billy Casper told Jud he’d ‘never work down t’pit’, I vowed never to get in all that ‘Sheffield: Steel City’ biz,” Cocker has said in a statement.

“But guess what? Looking at the BFI’s awesome collection of steel-related films changed my mind. I only hope that we can pay proper homage to the extraordinary individuals featured in this footage. Our aim is to melt faces (& hearts) & to blow minds. With maybe a bit of smelting thrown in for good measure. The jesses are so off.”
