Bruce Springsteen has broken with tradition and begun recording new material during touring duties off the back of the 2012 album ‘Wrecking Ball‘.

“We’ve never had a recording session during a tour in our lives,” Springsteen tells Rolling Stone.

“We did a couple of things that I wanted to put down. So that was very exciting. And being with Tommy was exciting. The band – Steven, Nils, all those guys – continues to be a source of inspiration for me.”

The Boss reveals the sessions took place in Sydney, Australia earlier this year, and included contributions from Rage Against The Machine‘s Tom Morello, who filled in for E Street band-member Steven Van Zandt during the Australian tour.

“I have stuff I’m working on that I’m very happy about,” he continues. “I hate to say, because I don’t like to be wrong, but I have a lot of material. I still feel like I’m in the middle of the well.”
