“A lot of our songs have four-on-the-floor drum patterns, which is a big part of their music,” so says Vampire Weekend bass player Chris Baio, as the band look ahead to a spate of touring along side Mumford & Sons.

“Their festivals seemed exciting, from everything we’ve heard and from people who have travelled with them,” he continues. “It seemed like a fun thing to do.”

Vampire Weekend will join Mumford & Sons when the latter headlines the new (for music) Olympic Park complex on July 6th – a year on from the hugely successful London Olympic Games, while the New York group will also top the bill at Mumford & Sons’ Gentlemen Of The Road travelling festival when it arrives in Lewes on July 19th.

Baio’s comments were made during a chat with Digital Spy, when his bandmate Rostam Batmanglij also revealed their new single ‘Step‘ is to be re-imagined by a number of different artists.

“We have plans to do something, but it’s too early to talk about that,” he said. “That song is about people who can be possessive over music they love, and it’s also about other songs; with that in mind, it’s gonna be fun to turn it into a big project.”
