Nick Allbrook has been explaining his decision to leave Tame Impala after a statement released by the band over the weekend said he was departing in order to ‘try and screw his head back on and make an attempt to assimilate back into society’.

The bass player has spoken to NME after the Kevin Parker-led band announced his departure following a show in Australia. Allbrook, who is also a part of Pond along with other Tame Impala members, said:

“All bands and projects and stuff will keep going, it’s just hard to keep them all going if you’re touring all the time.”The only bad part will be not seeing my mates every day. I love them more than anything.”

The statement released by Tame Impala on their official website reads in full:

“Nick Roland Paisley Adams Allbrook is hopping off the Tame Impala band wagon so that he can try and screw his head back on, and make an attempt to assimilate back into society…we’re super happy for our bro Nick and wish him well in all his various f*cking awesome artistic spewings and endeavours that he’ll actually have time for now. Good on ya brah.”

Allbrook’s move arrives despite drummer Jay Watson telling NME ahead of the release of ‘Lonerism‘ last year that he felt both Tame Impala and Pond could function along side one another without any problems.

“I don’t see any reason why we can’t co-exist, we’ve been doing it for years anyway,” he said. “We’re both really different bands.”
