James Dean Bradfield has opened up the possibility of two Manic Street Preachers albums being released some time this year.

Speaking to the Daily Star at last week’s Ivor Novello awards, Bradfield confirmed work on an acoustic-tinged LP is almost complete, adding that a ‘more aggressive and experimental’ second album is also being recorded.

“We’ve virtually finished the first, which is acoustic,” he explained. “There’s only one song with electric guitar on the album, but it’s not bongos round the campfire. The acoustic album has a soul vibe, with Rolling Stones-style horns. The first single is very positive, but there are darker moments too.”

According to Bradfield, Sheffield musician and former Pulp member Richard Hawley has made a guest appearance on the acoustic album. In addition, they have previously revealed the brand new song ‘Four Lonely Roads‘ features a contribution from folk singer Cate Le Bon.

The Manics will be in Australia this summer for three live dates which have been arranged to coincide with the British & Irish Lions’ tour of the country.
