‘Made Of Stone’ director Shane Meadows praises Stone Roses inspiration

stoneroseswide2Made Of Stone director Shane Meadows has praised The Stone Roses‘ inspirational qualities on a generation of working class children.

Meadows’ new film, documenting the sensational comeback of the Roses from October 2011 through to the triumphant, record breaking gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park the following summer, is due for release next month.

And speaking to Time Out as the premiere edges nearer, Meadows has reflected on the level of belief which the Manchester band’s success and attitude instilled in his age group.

“I think the Roses, like any great working class band, give you that feeling that you can do it yourself, whether it be music or film or whatever,” Meadows remarks. “Some of their early interviews are fantastic: bold, arrogant, fucking exquisite.”

“I’d always been angry, growing up among unemployment lines. But seeing a band like that, taking on the establishment and smashing it, saying they were the greatest band in the world, it was wonderful.”

The Manchester screening of Made Of Stone, which is to be held at the city’s Victoria Warehouse and will be attended by the band, is already sold out.
