Jake Bugg has begun work on a new album with the much respected rock producer Rick Rubin.

Speaking to NME, Bugg revealed the song ‘Slum Door Sunrise‘ has already been recorded in Malibu, California, but admitted he had not been aware of Rubin before their hook-up, despite the producer’s work with artists such as Johnny Cash, whom the Nottingham songwriter has often cited as a big influence on his burgeoning career.

“I didn’t know how well renowned he was when I went in there, so I kind of met the guy at face value and we got on really well,” he explained.

Later, Bugg went on to discuss the sound of his latest work which, according to reports, is again being written in collaboration with former Snow Patrol man Iain Archer.

“I’ve been listening to a lot of Neil Young and Nick Drake and all that kind of stuff, and I think with these new songs you can kind of tell what I’ve been listening to,” he continued. “I want to emulate the first record – but better.”
