Daft Punk have entered at number one on this week’s UK Album Chart, in the end falling well short of the sales record held by Oasis which some bookmakers had predicted them to beat.

With huge pre-sales racking up for the French dance outfit’s new album ‘Random Access Memories‘, Paddy Power installed it as a 4/5 favourite to surpass Oasis’ record for the fastest selling album in UK chart history.

The Manchester band sold over 700,000 copies of their third album ‘Be Here Now’ back in 1997, but despite the early forecasts Daft Punk have shifted a figure of 165,000 during the past seven days – which does make it the fastest seller of 2013 so far.

Elsewhere, The National continue their recent commercial success by entering inside the Top 3 with ‘Trouble Will Find Me‘, and Stereophonics‘ ‘Graffiti On The Train‘ has jumped five places.
