Stereophonics scrapped album trilogy after Green Day’s ‘didn’t do that well’

Stereophonics have said one of the reasons they decided to not release a ‘trilogy’ of albums was because of the perceived lack of success experienced by Green Day‘s similar plan.

“We thought we’d be the first, then Green Day announced ‘Uno, Dos and Tre’,” singer Kelly Jones is quoted as saying in the Daily Star. “They didn’t do that well but they’d have more of a chance if Billie Joe Armstrong had been around to play more concerts.”

Jones added that they are still hoping to have another new record released next year after ‘Graffiti On The Train‘ landed at number three on the UK Album Chart yesterday.

“You can’t absorb 30 songs at once,” he said. “That’s why we’re giving people 45 minutes worth for now, but hopefully we’ll have another album out within a year.”

‘Graffiti On The Train’ marks Stereophonics’ first LP with their new drummer Jamie Morrison after the departure of Javier Weyler in July 2012.
