A London pub which was reported to have asked Liam Gallagher to leave its premises on Mother’s Day because he was drunk has denied doing so, but admitted they did refuse to serve the Beady Eye frontman tequila at midday.

“We just said we couldn’t serve him because he was too drunk,” The Queens’ manager was quoted as saying in The Sun. “He was treated like any normal customer. It doesn’t matter who you are — if we think you are too drunk we will not serve you.”

The pub’s Twitter account also claimed at the time to have booted Gallagher out, declaring: “We’ve had to kick Liam Gallagher out twice today. He asked whether it was because he was a rock star. We said no, just a drunken twit.”

However, local newspaper Ham & High has done some serious investigative journalism work and found an unnamed member of staff to give their version of the story:

“To be honest the tweet was a bit of a joke. He wasn’t asked to leave at any point. He ordered tequila and we said we weren’t going to serve tequila at midday on a Sunday. He wasn’t kicked out or asked to leave, we just said we don’t serve tequila at midday on a Sunday.”
