Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis has taken to Twitter to clear up the undoubtedly legitimate comments he made about the nature of UK music festivals which were reported yesterday.

After his band confirmed their place as headliners for the 2013 Latitude festival, Philippakis told the Daily Star of his frustration at the dominance of well established and reunited bands at the top of festival bills, but came in for criticism from some for highlighting The Stone Roses as the main focus of his gripe.

In response, the frontman has insisted Foals have ‘nothing but respect and love’ for the Stone Roses, and added: on Twitter

“I was trying to make a general point about Festivals, which has got contorted. I think think i mmmmmaybe overstepped the mark with the dungaree comment but yr mad in the head if you think there is no effect on young bands if they’re having to contend with heritage acts forever. ok, end of. i’m gonna go eat waffles.”

Foals headline this year’s Latitude festival with Kraftwerk and Bloc Party.
