Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders has confirmed the band are planning a new album for this year, and are ‘definitely happy’ with what has been written so far.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, Helders said: “Hopefully we’ll get it out this year – that’s the plan,” but added that nothing has been properly recorded for the new album as of yet.

“We’ve just been working stuff out with the band,” he continued. “Nothing serious yet. It’s just been us four working stuff out like we used to I guess.”

“We had a bit of a break. It’s always weird when you first get back into it to know what kind of songs we write any more.”

The Arctic Monkeys already have a series of touring commitments booked for this year, including a short trip to the US in May and a number of European festival appearances. They are also being strongly tipped to headline the Friday night at Glastonbury in June.
