Stone Temple Pilots fire frontman Scott Weiland

A simple website post by seminal rock band Stone Temple Pilots confirmed that they had fired non other than their lead singer Scott Weiland today.

The statement on the official website  read: “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland. No further information is available at this time.

Just yesterday Weiland had assured Rolling Stone magazine that everything was OK with the band that produced hits such as “Plush,” “Sour Girl,” and “Sex Type Thing.”  He stated: “STP has not broken up. I haven’t quit. I haven’t been fired.”

Slash actually started a rumor of a split a couple of months back when he claimed STP had fired Weiland.

The singer has been the face and a core member of the group for more than 20 years since it came together in 1986.

STP have been touring since getting back together again in 2008 after a 5 year hiatus. Obviously there had been something brewing though.

Fans will still get to see the rocker perform again as he has a solo tour scheduled for next month.

It’s unclear whether STP has in mind to replace Weiland with anyone.
