Mumford & Sons have announced The Vaccines, Vampire Weekend and Mystery Jets as the special guests for their first Gentlemen Of The Road dates of 2013.
“The Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers are all about live music<” the band have said. “We get to put them on in towns not normally frequented by touring bands in buses or splitter vans. We deliberately look for towns that have something unique, or some vibe of which they are proud, explore them and enjoy what they have to offer, and then we try to bring a party without leaving too much of a trail of destruction in our wake.”
In total, five ‘Stopovers’ have been arranged, with the sole UK event this time taking place over two days – July 19th and 20th – when Vampire Weekend will headline at Convent Fields in Lewes on the first night and Mumford & Sons taking on the duties for the following day. Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit and The Very Best Soundsystem have also been recruited by the band.
“It’s a real privilege that being in Mumford & Sons has allowed us to be able to shine a light on these towns, places that sometimes don’t get the love they deserve, and to be the facilitators of great musical coming-togethers. We actually get to put on our own shows,” Mumford & Sons continue. “Which means that we get to ask our favourite bands to come and play a show with us, where we just get to watch them play all day. Five times in one summer too. Badass.”
Four additional Stopovers have been arranged for the US and Canada, the details of which are as follows:
23rd-24th August: Simcoe, Canada (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros + Mumford & Sons)
30th-31st August: Troy, Ohio (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros + Mumford & Sons)
6th-7th September: Guthrie, Oklahoma (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros + Mumford & Sons)
13th-14th September: St Augustine, Florida (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros + Mumford & Sons)
