Live4ever’s New Tunes Guide feat. Davis Fetter, The Mariner’s Children and The Areola Treat

For our New Tunes Guide highlights this week we present Davis Fetter, a Los Angeles-based musician first inspired by the embryonic 50s rock of Chuck Berry, and whose latest single was released right at the start of this year. The Mariner’s Children are included just as they announce a support slot with Willy Mason and prepare to release the ‘Sycamore’ EP, while The Areola Treat have emerged out of the tiny island of Malta with a sound that would have made a happy room-mate of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs some time around 2003.

“Hailing from sunny Southern California, indie-rock superhero duo Rick & Camille – aka The Agreeables – met in the summer of 2010 when Camille was cast in a rock musical Rick wrote and produced. They subsequently produced the musical in Cambridge, MA., summer 2011 and, shortly thereafter, retired from the theater to concentrate on saving the world one melody at a time. Rick’s prior experience is as a journalist, with over 40 magazine and newspaper credits, including L.A. Times, Playboy and ESPN Magazine. Camille has prior experience as a student, plays piano and sings. Rick strums guitar, sings and writes the songs.”

Cold In Berlin broke of out the east London scene to play Offset festival, tour in Europe and share stages with bands as diverse as The Chapman Family, Diary of Dreams and Mater Susperia Vision. Joining up with Candlelight Records (Opeth / Orange Goblin / Corrosion of Conformity) in August 2012 they released the pounding album ‘And Yet’ which has reached a new audience with Terrorizer and Metal Hammer Germany singing its praises as well as Mojo, Dominion and Rock-A-Rolla Magazines.”

Chords Of Truth is the brainchild of Jason Garriotte, a folk singer/songwriter who has embraced the electronic music world as well as the art of collaboration with an unrelenting spirit. The project is intended as a trip of deep self inquiry, with mind-expanding lyrics to support the journey. In September of 2011, Jason started writing melodies and lyrics that would soon emerge as his debut EP ‘Reflections of Reality’. Since the release, Jason decided to collaborate with various producers to see if his message would translate well in new formats. This was the birth of the ‘Chords of Truth Remixed’ project, a massive undertaking that eventually found Jason working with 14 producers to create an official double album as well as 8 additional remix EPs spanning a multitude of genres settling under the moniker “folktronica”. From the original 7 songs, there are now a 57 remixes/interpretations. Jason will be spending the coming year on tour playing countless shows, writing new material and promoting the project. ‘Reflections of Reality’ (Remixed Double LP) is due for release March 12, 2013.”

Misty Miller is from South West London who has been writing her own songs since the age of eight. Inspired by the likes of Patti Smith, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Irma Thomas, The Sonics, The Gories and the blues, Misty’s eclectic taste has informed a lot of her music to date. At the age of 15 she recorded her first album and released it on AWAL in 2011 that went on to sell 60,000 copies. Now, having signed to Sony label Relentless, she is set to release the Girlfriend EP on 25th February.”

The Areola Treat are a band from the tiny island of Malta. They’ve just finished recording a second album and are about to release the new single which will be part of a 7 song EP.”

Davis Fetter heard Chuck Berry at the age of 12 and picked up a Gibson 335. Davis is inspired by the iconic songwriting of such artists as The Smiths, Elvis, Roy Orbison, Lou Reed, and John Lennon, along with the euphoric melodies of The Libertines, Jesus and Mary Chain, and Buddy Holly. His guitar tones are unique, technical, and spacious at the same time. Vocally, Davis’ range gives him the freedom to hit Little Richard notes with the effortless cool of a Morrissey or Julian Casablancas, and the childlike raucous of Peter Doherty. His sound has been compared to Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Glasvegas, John Lennon, and James Brown.”

“Initially described as the ‘hate child’ of Fine Motor Control and Fire Hydrant, Divine Hammer was born when those bands converged in 2009. Serving as a vehicle for his frustrations with daily life, vocalist/bassist Tristan Campbell rails against boring jobs, suburban mono-cultures and the sociopaths seemingly redeemed by their good looks. But each jab is delivered with a wink and a nod, every harsh word is sung through a sweet melody: a death wish that we can all sing along to.”
