Is The Stone Roses’ classic debut being re-recorded by The Flaming Lips?

The Stone Roses‘ self-titled debut could be about to become the latest classic album to be given the Flaming Lips cover treatment following a series of Twitter hints during the past few weeks.

It was frontman Wayne Coyne himself who dropped one of the first clues late last month, writting via Instragram that he was, “Doin vocals for She bangs The Drum hopin to get Channy of Polica to sing on it too!!!!”, while Daniel Huffman of the New Flumes, who has worked with Coyne’s band on a number of projects in the not too distant past, tweeted a day later:

“Ashley from DEF RAINcame by the dome to sing on “Bye Bye Badman”!!! Stone Roses cover.”

Both tracks feature on The Stone Roses’ first LP, and also last month Matt Duckworth of Stardeath and White Dwarfs – another band with close associations to The Flaming Lips – told Twitter of his own contribution to another Roses album track, ‘Waterfall‘.

The Flaming Lips covered Pink Floyd‘s ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ in full back in 2009, though as yet there is no firm confirmation as to whether they are indeed working on a similar project for ‘The Stone Roses‘.
