David Bowie’s career documented in new BBC film

davidbowieThe BBC has commissioned a documentary film which aims to tell the story of five pivotal years in the life and career of David Bowie.

Taking its inspiration from the stunning opening track of Bowie’s seminal ‘The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust…’ LP, David Bowie – Five Years promises ‘extraordinary unseen footage’ of in-studio work, touring and interviews as it concentrates on 1971, 1975, 1977, 1980 and 1983 – all key periods in the evolution of Bowie’s songwriting.

“This is a project that has been in development for more than a decade, in fact since Bowie and I worked together in 2001 on a film for the BBC Omnibus strand,” director Francis Whately has said.

“This year, 2013, is shaping up to be the year of David Bowie, and now is the perfect moment for this feature-length film devoted to this extraordinary artist.”

The film will also bring Bowie’s career right up-to-date by looking at his sudden return to the music fold last month. It is scheduled to air on BBC Two in May.
