Coldplay‘s 2003 single ‘Clocks‘ has been voted the greatest song of the last decade by listeners of BBC 6Music.

The station launched the poll to mark ten years on the air, with DJs picking a 100-strong shortlist from which listeners were asked to pick their favourite.

Coldplay finished just ahead of the Arctic Monkeys‘ number one single ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor‘, while Elbow‘s perennial festival anthem ‘One Day Like This‘ placed third.

The National‘s ‘Bloodbuzz Ohio‘, which acted as the lead single for the band’s brilliant 2010 album ‘High Violet‘, is fourth, with The Killers‘ ‘Mr Brightside‘ completing the top 5.

This should read “fans of coldplay, vote coldplay top track on 6music poll despite not actually listening to the station”

All that happened is that coldplay begged fans via twitter to vote for them on this poll, which they did. There are more twitter followers for Coldplay than total listeners to 6music!
