Arctic Monkeys to headline Friday night at Glastonbury?

The Arctic Monkeys have signed up to headline the first night at this year’s Glastonbury festival, if one of The Sun’s army of ‘sources’ is to be believed.

The Sheffield band previously topped the bill at Glastonbury in 2007; a time when they were still searching for their voice on the big stage and thus struggled to make a lasting impression on the wide open acres of Worthy Farm.

But with frontman Alex Turner especially discovering a new-found confidence during the past couple of years, The Sun now claims they are due to return as the final act on the Friday, with Mumford & Sons and The Rolling Stones also tipped for headline performances by the tabloid.

“There’s still a way to go until the festival so anything could happen but the Arctic Monkeys have been given the Friday slot,” its source claims. “Festival bosses know that they’re a good group to get the crowd going.”

Reports elsewhere suggest popstar Rihanna is in talks to be the festival’s Sunday headliner as it prepares to return for a year’s break in June.
