The Stereophonics are one of the first bands to have signed up for a special Golden Age Of The Album series on BBC Radio 2 which will see them play a part in the re-recording of The Beatles‘ 1963 debut long player ‘Please Please Me‘.

Simply Red‘s Mick Hucknall and Gabrielle Aplin have also put their names down for the challenge, which will eventually see a host acts aiming to complete the entire album within a 12-hour time period.

“The re-creation of ‘Please Please Me’ promises to be one of Radio 2’s stand-out moments of 2013,” Bob Shennan, controller of BBC Radio 2 and 6Music has said. “Hearing those tracks brought to life again with a contemporary twist will have the network buzzing as much as the original did. It’s one album that changed the world of pop music and I think the 50th anniversary is a timely moment to remind everyone why.”

The marathon session is due to take place on February 11th at Abbey Road studios in London.
