The Birmingham Academy will now host My Bloody Valentine as part of the band’s short UK tour.

After originally announcing a British trip which was to begin at Glasgow Barrowlands on March 9th before taking in shows at the Manchester Apollo on March 10th and two nights at the Hammersmith Apollo on March 12th and 13th, Kevin Shields and company will instead open up in Birmingham on March 8th.

They have also announced plans to warm-up for the dates with a performance at the 1,500 capacity Electric Brixton in London on January 27th. In addition, six concerts in Japan and four in Australia are booked for February, while a headline appearance at Tokyo Rocks follows in May

Though details remain sketchy, My Bloody Valentine should finally release a new album this year after bassist Debbie Googe told Drowned In Sound Kevin Shields is virtually finished with their first studio effort since 1991’s ‘Loveless‘.

“It will definitely come out as it’s pretty much finished,” she said. “I mean, it’s impossible to talk about time with Kevin, but in terms of percentage-wise, he’s got one more track he wants to do then that’s it. Everything else is recorded.”
