The Brits to introduce new award for next year

BRITAwards2013The Brit Awards will introduce a new prize to the 2013 ceremony in support of the War Child charity.

The inaugural Special Recognition Award will be presented to an as-yet-unconfirmed recipient when next year’s ceremony takes place at London’s O2 Arena on February 20th.

The War Child charity, which has enjoyed a long relationship with music going back to 1995 and the recording of ‘Help‘, will hand out the award as it celebrates its 20th anniversary.

“For two decades now, War Child has worked with artists to raise funds and awareness to help children whose lives have been torn apart by war,” Brits chairman David Joseph has remarked.

“The Brits are proud to give recognition for their vital work as well as saying thank you to all the artists who have given their time, help and energy to something so important.”

With the introduction of the Special Recognition, the traditional Outstanding Contribution award, won in the past by the likes of Paul McCartney, Paul Weller and Oasis, is to take a break for 2013.
