A UK leg of the 2013 Sonisphere festival will not take place next year as organisers do not believe they can secure a strong enough bill for the event which was cancelled entirely last year.

Earlier this month Stuart Galbraith, CEO of Kilimanjaro Live, told the UK festival conference that last year’s troubles amounted to nothing more than hiccup. However, despite events in France and Italy still going ahead in 2013, a UK edition will not take place.

“We think it is really important that the event only runs when it has a line up that sets it apart from the competition while also carrying a ticket price that allows us to offer real value for money to the music fans,” a statement reads.

“We were hoping to do that in 2013 but unfortunately it wasn’t possible to fulfill both aims with the principle problem of there being a lack of available headliners of the calibre of previous festivals at Knebworth. We made offers to over a dozen major artists but for various reasons none of these offers lead to securing a strong bill.”
