Pulp unveiled a brand new studio recording of the track ‘After You‘ in time for this year’s Christmas celebrations.

At just after midnight on Christmas Day, the Sheffield band allowed fans who had attended their hometown gig earlier this month to download the song, which was first demoed back in 2001 during the sessions for their ‘We Love Life‘ album, with a secret code. The finished version is slightly longer than that previously heard demo, and has been produced by James Murphy.

The message to fans who attended the one-off Sheffield Motorpoint Arena concert on December 8th came in a special Christmas card which read:

“We got you a little present but you can’t open it til Xmas day, OK? If you enter this code into a computer anytime after midnight on Xmas Eve you will get a nice surprise – but no peeking before then! That would be naughty.”

The release of the track could raise hopes of a full album from Pulp following their live reunion after online news of November studio sessions, but frontman Jarvis Cocker recently ruled out any prospects of more new material, telling Q that it has been ‘a big enough challenge to learn how to play all the old songs’.
