Kaiser Chiefs have revealed their drummer and main songwriter Nick Hodgson has left the band ahead of a February 2013 tour of the UK.

Writing on Twitter Hodgson, who wrote the bulk of the band’s biggest hit ‘I Predict a Riot‘, simply stated he is ‘moving on’, explaining:

“I can confirm I have left Kaiser Chiefs after 15 spectacular years. I’m moving on. I wish the rest of the band the very best!”

An official statement confirmed the news with a short announcement that reads:: “We can confirm that Nick has decided not to be in the band any more and that our show at Reading Festival in August was his last as a member of Kaiser Chiefs.”

Tweets from his now-former bandmates suggest the departure has been an amicable one, with lead singer Ricky Wilson declaring, ‘The door is on the latch and the key under the mat’, while bassist Simon Rix wrote:

“I can exclusively confirm we will still be collaborating on pints in pubs.”
