Video: Vampire Weekend debut new track ‘Unbelievers’

Vampire Weekend celebrated Halloween yesterday by handing the new track ‘Unbelievers‘ its live debut. The performance has been uploaded to YouTube and can be viewed below.

The New York band were appearing on the US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and aired the song whilst dressed in seasonal costume.

The premiere of brand new material arrives after frontman Ezra Koenig revealed last summer during an interview with The Walkmen for The Fader that the follow-up to 2010’s US chart toppper ‘Contra’ was finally progressing well after being described as a ‘long process’.

“We’re working on our album,” he said. “It’s been a long process. We always try to write and record at the same time. So we’ve always got some ProTools session demo that tends to actually turn into the finished product. I think we have 80 per cent of the songs now.”

‘Contra’ made headlines upon its release in January 2010 when its sleeve became the subject of a legal battle after Ann Kirsten Kennis made a threat to sue that band and XL Recordings for allegedly using her image on the artwork without the correct permission.
