The Stone Roses will go head-to-head with the likes of The Cure and Metallica after their appearance at T In The Park last summer was nominated for the Headline Performance Of The Year at the 2012 UK Festival Awards.
The reformed Manchester band topped the bill at T In The Park this year as part of their European comeback tour, and have been shortlisted along side The Cure’s mammoth headline spot at Reading/Leeds and Metallica’s gig at Download, while New Order, Stevie Wonder and Mogwai are some of the other acts competing for the prize.
In the absence of Glastonbury – which has previously won the Best Major Festival prize in 2009 and 2011 – on the 2012 calendar, Bestival, Isle Of Wight and T In The Park are likely to be some of the front-runners this time round, while the Y Not festival will be unable to defend the crucial Best Toilets award after missing out on a nomination.
This year’s ceremony will take place at the London Roundhouse next month, hosted by comedian Phill Jupitus.
