While they may have missed out on the night’s big award, like their fellow eleven Mercury Prize shortlisted acts The Maccabees were presented with a special statuette in recognition of their nomination this year. By the end of the ceremony though, it appears the band had been a touch careless with their trophy.

Taking to Twitter in the early of hours of today (November 2nd) after the London ceremony had wound down, The Maccabees put out a request for help in recovering the award which has apparently been misplaced.

“If anyone finds a mercury nominee award with the maccabees engraved on it please let us know,” they wrote on the social network.

The Maccabees had been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize thanks to their excellent 2012 record ‘Given To The Wild‘ which, in the face of dwindling sales for many other guitar bands, has proved to be the biggest commercial success of their career to-date.

However, they failed to land the coveted prize as one of the most predictable Mercury results of recent years was confirmed when Alt-J, the long-term bookies favourties, came out on top with their debut album ‘An Awesome Wave‘.
