My Bloody Valentine are planning on releasing their long-awaited new album through frontman Kevin Shields‘ website before the year is out, reports NME.

According to the publication, the record’s online release will then be followed by an EP collection in 2013. The album is the influential band’s first batch of new material since way back in 1991 and the second studio effort ‘Loveless‘.

“I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something,” Shields has told NME. “Based on the very, very few people who’ve heard stuff – some engineers, the band, and that’s about it – some people think it’s stranger than ‘Loveless’. I don’t.”

“I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it’s 100 per cent necessary.”

My Bloody Valentine have also confirmed a headline appearance at the Tokyo Rocks festival in May 2013, a gig which Shields has said will be, ‘interesting because it’s going to be in a new venue’.
