Damon Albarn helped the BBC celebrate the 90th anniversary of its first radio broadcast yesterday evening (November 14th).

After being asked to take part in the project, dubbed Radio Reunited, Albarn had remarked: “I love the idea of stations across Britain and the World Service coming together, with all of our different lives and circumstances, even if it’s only for a few minutes. It’s a powerful idea.”

And his composition ‘2LO Calling‘, described as a ‘snapshot of the airwaves’, was played simultaneously from London’s Science Museum across the BBC’s radio networks at 17:33 GMT.

The three-minute track included various sounds from the BBC’s history, as well as messages from listeners around the world who had contributed their thoughts after being asked to take part back in September.

“There is a special musicality to some of the vocal messages, which I tried to preserve,” Albarn told the BBC ahead of the broadcast. “Added to that, I got to do what I’ve always wanted – to play along with the pips.”
