Damien Hirst to design 2013 Brit Awards trophy

BRITAwards2013Damien Hirst will follow in the footsteps of Vivienne Westwood and Sir Peter Blake by designing the statue for next year’s Brit Awards.

The artist, famed for his conceptual art installations which have included displaying animals such as a shark and a cow preserved in formaldehyde, will make ‘winning a 2013 Brit an even more special proposition’ according to Brits chairman David Joseph.

“We are delighted that Damien will become the third extraordinary creative Briton to re-imagine the Brit statue,” Joseph continues. “He is truly one of the most important British artists ever.”

The nominations for the 2013 Brit Awards will be unveiled by Radio 1 irritant Nick Grimshaw on January 10th. Earlier this year, Blur began what would prove to be a busy year for the band by picking up the Lifetime Achievement award, the 2012 ceremony also made headlines when British Album winner Adele had her speech cut short by host James Corden due to apparent timing issues.
