Sir Paul McCartney has revealed he is hoping to enter the studio with Jeff Lynne in a bid to finally complete a John Lennon track which first resurfaced during work on The BeatlesAnthology documentary series in the mid-Nineties.

Speaking on the new Jeff Lynne documentary Mr. Blue Sky, McCartney reveals he, Lynne and George Harrison had been working on a second John Lennon-written song along side the eventual single ‘Free As a Bird‘, but didn’t finish re-recording the track as George thought it was ‘rubbish’.

“There was another one that we started working on but George went off it,” McCartney remembers. “We were like, ‘No George, this is John’. He said, ‘It’s still rubbish!’. ‘Ok then’. So that one is still lingering around. I’m gonna nick in with Jeff and do it, finish it, one of these days.”

‘Free As a Bird’ was officially released in 1995 to promote the Anthology films, and peaked at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart.
