Former R.E.M guitarist Peter Buck will swiftly release a solo album after announcing its details yesterday (October 2nd).

The record marks the first release for a member of R.E.M since the band’s split last year, and will be available from this Friday, initially limited to 2,000 vinyl copies.

“I know I said for years that I would never make a solo record,” Buck has said on R.E.M’s official website. “It was never a plan or a desire, but it just kind of happened.”

“I wrote 95% of the lyrics and most of the music. It is the first thing I have ever been involved in where I was actually in charge, and the record turned out to be like a trip through my mind; all of the kinds of music I love, played with some of my favourite musicians, in a one-take spontaneous atmosphere.”

Amongst the contributors to the record are Buck’s former R.E.M bandmate Mike Mills and Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye.
