The Stone Roses‘ three homecoming shows at Heaton Park have been officially confirmed as the fastest selling in UK history by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Not long after tickets went on sale last October in the wake of the Manchester heroes announcing their unlikely reunion at a London press conference, reports suggested the unprecedented interest had made the Heaton Park dates the most in demand series of concerts ever.

And now the Guinness World Records have officially backed up those claims, with figures showing all 220,000 tickets were snapped by eager fans in just 68 frenzied minutes.

The gigs subsequently went ahead over one weekend earlier this summer, and were generally seen as a major success. According to respected music journalist and long-time Stone Roses fan John Robb, the group are now busy writing ‘psychedelic pop songs‘ after completing their European reunion tour, with a brand new album planned for 2013.
