The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess has told The Independent newspaper the band are planning on releasing a new album next year.

“We’re doing an album next year, or that’s the plan. Me and Mark Collins have already got together to write some songs, and I reckon one sounds pretty good,” he said. “Being part of a band is completely different. It’s working with five people and it’s not all about me. That’s got to be a good thing, right?”

Any new record would be the Manchester veterans’ first since 2010’s ‘Who We Touch‘, after which they were again hit with near-tragedy when drummer Jon Brookes was taken ill in Philadelphia and subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Meanwhile, Tim Burgess will release his second solo album on September 24th. Entitled ‘Oh No I Love You‘, the album was recorded in Nashville with producer Mark Nevers, and features a number of guest contributions from musicians including members of Lambchop, Clem Snide, and My Morning Jacket.
