Sir Paul McCartney was the special guest of Damon Albarn at the Blur frontman’s Africa Express concert in London over the weekend after rushing back to the city from Paris.

McCartney had been in the French capital to join other celebrities such as Clint Eastwood and Barbara Streisand in being presented with the country’s highest civilian honour – the Legion Of Honour medal – by President Francois Hollande, and soon after jumped aboard the Eurostar to London’s King’s Cross station where he was greeted by Albarn.

The pair then made their way to the gig in Granary Square, where the likes of former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and Super Furry AnimalsGruff Rhys also made guest appearances.

The five-hour show was the final stop for the Africa Express, whose specially chartered train has visited Middlesbrough, Glasgow, Manchester, Cardiff and Bristol during the run, where a variety of musicians have played along side Damon Albarn.
