The Vaccines guitarist Freddie Cowan has said Coldplay‘s collaboration with pop superstar Rihanna on their track ‘Princess Of China‘ is a sign that the group will ‘do whatever they can to be the biggest band on earth’.
“I’ve never heard that song, but it’s Coldplay – they’ll do whatever they can to be the biggest band on earth, to be bigger than U2,” Cowan remarks in an interview with Digital Spy.
“They do it really well and they’ve never put out a bad album so hats off to them. I have nothing against those collaborations because I don’t feel you can judge people, but I don’t think I’ll ever be involved in something like that. It needs artistic merit.”
Cowan also commented specifically on Rihanna, stating his belief that the team of writers and producers she has behind her means she cannot be considered a true ‘artist’.
“Rihanna isn’t an artist – she has 15 writers, 15 songwriters and 15 producers all fighting for space on her albums and she’s the face of it,” he continues. “I have nothing against it, but I don’t want to be associated with it.”
The Vaccines’ new album ‘The Vaccines Come Of Age‘ is due for release next week.
And this is what envy looks like – The fact that they are talking smack about Coldplay means they are one of the biggest bands already.
Rihanna have sung with Bon Jovi, Bono and have had a calaboration with Slash, Her lead guitarist is Nuno from Extreme. I therefore am having trouble getting Mr cowns point. The Vaccines have grown up but they are yet to mature!
