Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder saw in his 50th birthday during the band’s gig in Ibiza yesterday (August 22nd).

The reformed Manchester band were at the Ibiza Rocks event on the holiday island, and performed into the early hours of this morning so Ryder could celebrate the milestone birthday onstage.

Ibiza Rocks began in 2005 and is a summer-long carnival of live music. Ryder and co were following in the footsteps of the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian and DJ Zane Lowe who have all appeared at the festival since it began in June, while bands including Bloc Party, New Order, and Two Door Cinema Club are due up before the event wraps up next month.

The Happy Mondays’ appearance there formed a part of their 2012 reunion dates, which began with a tour of the UK back in May. The successful year will be rounded off with two back-to-back gigs at London’s Roundhouse venue on December 19th and 20th, when they will be joined by 808 State and other special guests.
