Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil has revealed the reunited band’s new album, their first since 1996’s ‘Down on the Upside‘, will be released in November.

Thayil confirmed a release date of November 12th in the UK and November 13th in the US during an interview with Rolling Stone for the LP, which has been mooted since frontman Chris Cornell officially announced the band’s return in January 2010. “It re-establishes that we still rock, we’re still heavy, and we’re still a little weird,” Thayil told Rolling Stone.

The news comes after Soundgarden issued a taste of new material earlier this year, when the track ‘Live To Rise’ was premiered as part of the soundtrack for the 2012 Avengers movie.

Last month, the Seattle group headlined the Hard Rock Calling festival in London’s Hyde Park along side fellow US heavyweights Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon. The 2012 event made headlines after The Boss’ typically mammoth performance was cut short late on by organisers.
