NASA using The Beatles to ‘wake up’ Mars Curiosity Rover

NASA has been using various tracks by the likes of The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and The Doors to ‘wake up’ its Curiosity Rover which landed on Mars last week.

Eric Blood, who works in surface systems, revealed the tracks used to re-boot Curiosity each morning during an ‘Ask Me Anything’ Q&A session on Reddit yesterday (August 16th).

According to Blood, since successfully touching down on the Red Planet’s surface on August 6th, the rover has enjoyed morning tunes including The Beatles’ ‘Good Morning Good Morning‘, Frank Sinatra‘s ‘Come Fly With Me‘, Anthrax‘s ‘Got the Time‘, The Doors‘ ‘Break on Through‘, George Harrison‘s ‘Got My Mind Set on You‘, Simon & Garfunkel‘s cover of the Everly Brothers‘ 50s classic ‘Wake Up Little Susie‘ and, of course, the Star Wars theme.

Curiosity will be exploring the Gale Crater on Mars, and is hoped to shed light on whether life has ever existed on the Earth’s nearest planetary neighbour.
