While there were plenty of British bands present and correct at the London Olympics’ closing ceremony last night (August 12th), one band not in attendance was Kasabian, and the band’s guitarist Serge Pizzorno has said he believes that was a mistake on the part of Danny Boyle.
Speaking to XFM, Pizzorno stated his belief that Kasabian’s 2009 single ‘Fire‘ would have been the perfect track to accompany the distinguishing of the London Olympics’ flame.
“Danny, what were you thinking? We’ve got a song called ‘Fire’ and there’s a massive cauldron being set alight – it would have been perfect,” Pizzorno said. “I’ve enjoyed every second of the Olympics though, even the archery.”
Those bands who did play live during the ceremony are enjoying a predictable sales surge today, with Elbow‘s signature track ‘One Day Like This‘ currently troubling the iTunes chart’s Top 10, while Oasis‘ seminal 1995 album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?‘ is back in the Top 40 following a performance of ‘Wonderwall‘ by Beady Eye.
