Blur’s Alex James hoping to work with Johnny Marr next year

Blur bassist Alex James has said he would be interested in working with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr and legendary US musician Nile Rodgers, who have themselves begun collaborating over recent months.

Quoted in today’s Daily Star newspaper, James said that while fitting back into Blur was no problem for him, the path of his career in music now those commitments are once again completed is more unclear, though he is hoping to ‘do something’ next year.

“Although I hadn’t done it for a while, I know what to do in Blur,” he said. “Playing the bass in a rock and roll band is a straight-forward activity – you just have to stand still.”

“I’d like to do something next year. I’m no frontman, so a solo album wouldn’t work. I’m picky and it’s a big commitment to make music properly. More than anyone else, I’d like to play with that new band of Nile Rodgers and Johnny Marr – that’s what I call a fucking supergroup.”
