Stereophonics have confirmed the departure of drummer Javier Weyler.

Weyler had spent eight years behind the drumkit for the Welsh band having joined up officially in 2004 following the departure of Stuart Cable.

He was working as an audio engineer when he first met the Stereophonics, who were at the time recording their fourth studio album ‘You Gotta Go There To Come Back‘.

“We wish Javier every success going forward in his new creative endeavours and personal life,” the group have said in a statement. “Filling in temporarily for Javier on these next shows will be our friend Sam.”

Stereophonics are due to represent Wales at the forthcoming BT London Live concert in London’s Hyde Park, which will run in conjunction with the 2012 Olympics’ opening ceremony. Also appearing on the bill are Duran Duran, Paolo Nutini and Snow Patrol.

Earlier this month, they announced plans to release new studio albums in both 2013 and 2014.
