A rare White Stripes single has commanded a fee of almost $13,000 after being auctioned this week.
A 7″ of the band’s second single ‘Lafayette Blues‘ backed with ‘Sugar Never Tasted So Good‘, one of only 15 numbered copies, was sold to a private collector for $12,700 (£8,100).
On auctioning the single, Jack White has remembered the time when he attempted unsuccessfully to sell the single after a White Stripes show at the Gold Dollar in Detroit for just $6 back in their early days.
“I remember me and a friend were talking, ‘Aw that’s too much, no-one’s gonna buy it at the Gold Dollar for six dollars’,” he remembered.
“Then we went in to sell them and you can’t pick! You had to buy the first one, and there was a ton of people standing around waiting for someone to buy the first one, because they didn’t want the first one. They wanted the tenth one.”
