Elbow keyboard player Craig Potter is hoping the band’s work on the BBC’s official Olympics theme will help them realise an ambition to write a film soundtrack.

“Considering we’re known for having an epic sound, I’m a bit surprised we haven’t been offered more film soundtrack work to be honest,” Potter tells today’s Daily Star newspaper.

“Working with the BBC was a great experience and we’ve wanted to try a movie soundtrack for a while. We just haven’t had the chance yet. I loved the 50s film director Billy Wilder, and we’re open to any exciting director’s approach.”

Later, Potter also revealed Elbow have no plans to play their Olympics track, which is entitled ‘First Steps‘, live as they prepare to appear at the Latitude festival today. “We didn’t want it to be confused with a regular Elbow song so we’ve got other voices on there,” he continued. “The song is about the Olympic spirit, not Elbow, so we won’t play it live.”
