Blur have launched their own dedicated app for the iPad and iPhone which will act as a companion piece for their forthcoming career retrospective ‘Blur 21: The Box‘.

Blur: The App is available to download for free via iTunes from today (July 23rd), and offers fans both rare and previously unreleased music along with footage of band interviews and classic live performances. The app will also contain photo galleries, biographies, a career time-line, both a comprehensive discography and videography, and a gigography with setlists provided by setlist.fm.

The app is fully interactive with social networks, and will sync news from Blur’s official website, Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Due for release on July 30th, ‘Blur 21: The Box’ is a 21-disc box-set comprising the band’s entire back catalogue to date, and is being issued to celebrate the 21st anniversary of debut album ‘Leisure‘.

As well as the CDs, which include special 2CD editions of each of Blur’s seven studio albums, the special edition box-set is to include rarities, three DVDs and a collectable 7″ vinyl of a previously unreleased live recording of ‘Superman‘.

A brand new book containing liner notes derived from new band interviews and previously unseen photographs will also be available.
