New Order frontman Bernard Sumner has said fans should be ‘very wary’ of the new Joy Division book which has been written by his estranged bandmate Peter Hook.

Hook’s Joy Division memoirs, entitled Unknown Pleasures – Inside Joy Division, were announced this week, and are said to tell the story of the band’s ‘friendships, fall outs and camaraderie’.

However, when speaking to XFM’s Chloe Aust at Poland’s Open’er festival, where New Order were headlining on July 4th, Sumner said Hook’s opinionated nature, which he believes is not always in line with the truth, means people should be wary of the book’s contents.

“I’ve got to be very careful about my answer, it’s important,” he said. “He was in Joy Division so he has a right to write the book, but he’s a very opinionated person and quite a lot of the time his opinions are wrong – so I’d be very wary of that book.”

“Eventually the truth always comes out doesn’t it? One day the truth will come out,” he continued when asked whether he has any plans to write his own version of the Joy Division story.
