The xx have confirmed the follow-up to their Mercury winning self-titled debut album will be released in September.

Entitled ‘Coexist‘, the LP will be released on September 11th after recording sessions began in earnest late last year, with new songs being debuted during three London shows last month.

Speaking to NME of their new record, The xx’s Romy Madely-Croft has spoken of the group’s belief that it should be judged on its own merits as they aim to move away from the critically-lauded sound of their debut.

“I’ve been thinking that I hope people enjoy it as a separate thing,” Madely-Croft said. “The first album exists – we’re not trying to make it again. We’ve just grown up, and although this isn’t a ‘grown up’ album, we’ve evolved. It’s just us growing a bit more. I hope people enjoy it as a continuation, rather than us trying to make the first album again.”
