The Stone Roses perform classic set at first Heaton Park concert

The Stone Roses treated 75,000 fans to a classic set-list yesterday (June 29th) on the first night of their three homecoming Heaton Park concerts in Manchester.

After gradually honing and expanding their show during a run of European warm-up gigs, The Stone Roses aired their landmark eponymous debut album in full, and also dipped into the best of the under-rated 1994 follow-up ‘The Second Coming‘, with the likes of ‘Ten Storey Love Song‘ and ‘Love Spreads‘ included in the setlist along with a clutch of much loved b-sides.

Predictably, frontman Ian Brown gave his own little anti-monarchy sentiment before a performance of ‘Elizabeth My Dear‘, telling the crowd: “This is for them 200 miles down the road celebrating 60 years of tyranny.”

The Stone Roses will perform the second Heaton Park show tonight, with support being provided by the likes of Beady Eye and Professor Green.
