Bob Welch, one of the early members of the classic rock band Fleetwood Mac, has been found dead at his home in Nashville after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 66 years old.

A police spokesman has said Welch’s wife discovered his body yesterday (June 8th) at around midday local time. Originally from Los Angeles, Welch was a part of Fleetwood Mac between 1971-1974. His departure paved the way for Lindsey Buckingham to join, sparking a period of huge commercial success for the band.

In 1976, Welch formed Paris, enjoying hits in the late Seventies with tracks such as ‘Sentimental Lady‘ and ‘Ebony Eyes‘.

“I had many great times with him after Lindsey and I joined Fleetwood Mac,” Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks has told the Associated Press. “He was an amazing guitar player, he was funny, sweet and he was smart. I am so very sorry for his family and for the family of Fleetwood Mac.”
